Piece of Finland Tupa – The lodge
The story behind the piece:
The living room of the cottage is traditionally the heart of the Finnish home. Within its log walls, celebrations, as well as sadder events, were carried out. Common meals and resting times, craft making, etc. gave every room its very own kind of spirit. Many cottages have even served as sort of taverns for tired travellers, even if penniless. This tradition is alive and well in cottages, where hospitality and helping one’s neighbour are still valued. The logs may have been replaced by prefabricated wooden panels, but the spirit of the cottage remains.
